Wonderful traditional experience. Enjoyed it a lot. Very friendly staff 😊
We didn't get the chance to try the tee. We where late to the tea shop. We lost the last bus and the owner offered us a ride to the city. Such great and kind people. Many thanks. ã©ã‚‚ ã‚ã‚ŠãŒã¨ãŠã€ アテãƒã®ã‚®ãƒªã‚·ãƒ£äººï¼
Very good cakes, excellent tea
Nestled in a beautiful cedar forest, you can enjoy a hot cup of tea to warm up from the cold.
We all enjoyed a lot .. relaxing after long walking in Hakone area . very quite and smells good (authentic). the lady speaks English fluently . the road from ferry to hear is nice as well if you drive . ( Zig Zag) I recommend it.
Great mochi, great tea, laid back atmosphere. Definitely stop here if you're in Hokone for the day.
A lovely pitstop in the afternoon to have some tea and mochi snacks. There aren’t many of these kind of tea houses left in Hakone, worth the visit!
THE BEST AMAZAKE!
The Amazake was delicious! I also tried the mochi. The staff was very kind. If you are visiting Hakone I would recommend stopping by this place for a drink and a snack.
Lovely little tea house in Hakone. Great place to chill and relax over their signature Amazake tea.
Wonderful experience at a traditional tea house, try their home made mochi for a savoury snack! Their hot tea is brewed to almost perfection, with a smokey after taste. Recommend to take bus number 5 for a short 15 ride from the port and enjoy an afternoon in the tea house.
Very quaint tea house off the beaten path with unusual beverages. I think you'd be hard pressed to find this type of experience anywhere else. I recommend the 20 minute forest hike to get here
It was worth the trip down here! Serving Amazing tea and light snacks. Had the agar agar noodle served in a light Vinegar stock which was amazingly tasty and refreshing. Roasted barley tea is free, so help yourself to a nice cup of it.- English menu available- friendly staff that speaks handful english- cash only
The mochi are absolutely great, the building is lovely. I really recommend it!
Great place for a pit stop while walking the old Tokkaido footpath. The Amazake is delicious, I had it hot, and it was almost like a spiced sweet porridge. Staff were friendly and easy to communicate with, plus they accommodated our group of 7 with ease.
We arrived at the tea house at 17:00 after the rope bridge and pirate ship was closed due to too much wind. We walked in and was greeted by Koto (like the instrument) and she was extremely friendly and welcoming and the tea house looked and smelled amazing. She advised us the last bus was at 17:11 so we had to eat quickly and the tea and mochi cakes came almost immediately and were absolutely delicious. We spoke to koto the whole time about where we came from and where she did and our accents and she was wonderful. We then looked at the time and it was 1711 so they quickly ran out to stop the bus for us and gave us the food for free even when we offered to pay! She also gave us a safe travel charm and waved us good bye and it truly made our day. Wished we spent more time there but that little experience is going to be one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommend it to anyone and the walk in the woods there is amazing. Thanks so much Koto! Fred
While I was hiking, a sudden downpour forced me to seek shelter. I arrived at their tea house and was greeted with a menu card. After eating and drinking we got in a conversation. The woman told me how this place was family run and we talked about our home countries, amongst other things. She also told me which busses will get me home. When I left for the last bus, she even gave me an umbrella for my way home. They are such kind people and the food and juice was so tasty, I can 100% recommend to visit this place!
Wonderfully nostalgic ancient tea-house with beautiful original wooden features, lovely friendly staff, and well priced tea, sweets and Sake. A highlight of Hakone - and a haven away from the bulk of the tourists
Early morning activity spot.Open at 7:00.
This is quite the gem of a tea house, not only because of the famous teas they serve, nor the delicacies available, but rather it serves as I believe the last remaining rest stop from a time when the travel getting to Hakone was long and arduous. Do take the time to breath in the atmosphere, and just relax and unwind. There are also several places around where you can take the trail going up and around the woods, enjoying more of nature.
The amazake is so yummy. Too bad they didn’t sell it.
Great history behind this place.
One of the nicest places we visited in Hakone. It is not as touristy and crowded as other spots around town.
Very friendly wait staff. Good English.
A must try experience! Great for a chilly day or after hiking the old trail that leads right to this tea house. The rice drink is so unique and the black sesame sweet was very good (our favorite)!
The mochi was sooo good! And the amazake was amazing. I love how the teahouse is 400 years old. When you walk inside you feel like you have stepped back in time! Not far from the bus stop either.
Best place in Hakone.
Super quaint old tea house. Perfect for a nice break while walking the old tokaido road - which is a beautiful stroll that takes about 2 hours, and is a rough cobblestone path that has been around forever. Not sure if I’d bus out here just for it, but I found appreciating how difficult it can be to move things along the road and how nice taking a rest here would be
Worth the visit if you are in Motohakone. We walked on the old Hakone highway (walking path) to the tea shop. Beautiful and quaint place, and the mochi and the amazake were delicious.
Nice and traditional tea house. Welcoming staff and relaxed atmosphere.
Great atmosphere and a welcome break on our hike of the Old Tokaido road. So much history at this location and excellent mochi and tea.
As traditional as you get in terms of ambience. Great snacks as well just that selection was very limited. Must visit if you want to experience something traditional. Excellent service as well.
A peaceful and quiet Tea House. One of the oldest and still in operation Tea House to serve Travellers. Do remember to try their Mochi and Amazake (A drink make from Fermented Rice, it is sweet and with a unique taste less the alcohol. Suitable for children too.)
Stop there and try the rice drink! It’s amazing. The bus runs about every half hour so you can jump off, grab a warm rice drink in a cozy house and then jump back on quickly.
The mochi was delicious, the atmosphere felt historic. Very welcoming.
Nice experience. Beautiful location. Have two types of sweets. One of them, saponin based, are not for me - too gelatinous; the other, the rice ones, are great. Check the small Japanese only museum on the side about the location, a traditional route between the old and new capital cities.
Amazing place. It's a family run tea house, the same family has managed it for15th generations. Looks beautiful inside and out. The owner is the sweetest lady we met in japan so far (in a place where everyone is super sweet that's a big deal) she speaks great english and loves to talk about the area, tea house and the guests. They serve their namesake amazake, which is a fermented rice tea which is naturally very sweet. Must try if you are there.
Quaint place. Looks amazing from outside. If you can, try everything. The snacks were good!
It was a long bus ride to reach here from out hotel ( we used the Hakone freepass). It was worth the long bus ride in the cold weather. It was quite a different experience. Loved it.The drinks we ordered tatted great. They do have green tea abusive for free.A must visit place if you are in Hakone
Lovely tea house in the middle of the forest (accessible by road, by K bus from Motohakone/Hakone-Yumoto, and on foot about 40min from Motohakone down the Tokaido road). Mochi treats, various teas including the eponymous Amazake, a whitish sweet tea made as a by product of the sake brewing process (but non-alcoholic). Really sweet and traditional tea house. Nice stop especially if you are walking down the Tokaido road.
Beautiful and calm. Truly local tea house
We stopped by Amazake-chaya and was warmed by the hospitality of the staff and hot tea. The mochi served were excellent, and the amazake was very tasty (similar to soy milk in taste, non-alcoholic). As it was raining, the tea house looked particularly romantic from the outside
Quite an experience. Friendly staff, sweets and tea.
Quaint little tea house with very friendly staff. Great place to chill and end the day
The BEST mochi in Japan!!
Amazing tea house in the middle of the mountains. Excellent spot to catch a break during the long hikes around Hakone. Highly recommend the mochi!
Comfort place for hot drinks in cold weather
My husband’s parents love this place and they took us here. First of all, servers are so friendly and kind. They are very welcome customers and make them feel like home. This tea house is a traditional Japanese house and it’s so beautiful.Of course, rice cake with green soy flour( Uguisumochi ã†ãã„ã™ã‚‚㡠¥500?)and unsweetened fermented rice drink (amasake 甘酒 Â¥400) are the best. Even pickled vegetable on the side is really good. I cannot forget that rice cake’s texture.
This tea house is absolutely stunning, and the Amezake-Chaya was so warming and delicious. The ladies at the house were also very kind and helpful. Definitely a must see if you are in the Hokkiado.
